Soap Challenge Club

learn. make. share. repeat.

Hi! My name is Amy Warden, founder and host of the Soap Challenge Club. I created this place for soapmakers to learn new techniques, hone their skills, meet other soapmakers, and win amazing prizes because I knew it would be FUN! I made my first batch of cold process soap on November 18, 2002, as a Christmas gift for my friends. It was a wonderful experience that led to many more. In January 2005, I started my retail soap business Great Cakes Soapworks.

In March 2012, I started doing some weekly soap challenges on my Great Cakes Soapworks blog to engage with other soapmakers. I had been following Australian blogger Darren Rowse of Problogger.com for quite a while at that time to learn how to be a successful blogger. The idea for the challenges came from the photography challenges I had seen on Darren’s photography blog (that are still happening to this day!). It was while I was on Spring Break with my girls at my parent’s house in 2013 when I came up with the idea to create a monthly Soap Challenge Club similar to what it is now.

The first monthly challenge started in June 2013 when we did the peacock swirl, and continued monthly through December 2017. You can see all of the past challenge techniques HERE. After taking a break to pursue other business opportunities, I realized that the Soap Challenge Club was still my passion and I started it back up again in September 2018. The Club is open to any soapmaker who wishes to join! Registration periods are only open for 8 days each month, so if you’d like to be notified when the next one opens, sign up HERE.
