Kaleidosoap-on-a-Rope Winners
October 2023 Soap Challenge
The original kaleidoscope soaps were created and named by Belinda Williams of Love Your Suds for the Pull-Through Soap Challenge in May 2019. Her award winning soap not only garnered grand prize, but Best Technique as well. Later that year Love Your Suds launched the Soap Shaper Shop where soapmakers can purchase pull-through tools to create the kaleidoscope effect, scraper-style Soap Shapers, soap stamps, extruder discs, molds, and more. All tools are made in Canada and ship worldwide. Many of our members used her tools for the challenge with excellent results!
Thankfully, Belinda agreed to sponsor this month’s challenge with $100 gift certificate prizes for our grand prize winners in each competitive category, plus the Sponsor’s Choice prize in the bonus category. Additionally, she is giving away 20% coupon codes to all our second and third place winners!
The goal of the challenge was to create kaleidosoaps that have beautiful repeated patterns with clear lines between colors using a pull-through tool. The regular category was able to cut their soaps, poke a hole in each one and attach a rope. The advanced and winners categories were tasked with cutting thin slices of kaleidosoap and completely covering a rounded shaped soap with a rope attached.
Many of the members, including myself, became enamored with the designs of the kaleidoscope once we understood the assignment. If you are interested in learning how to have success with the kaleidosoap technique, the tutorial from this challenge is available HERE.

Feedback “This entry won me over with the clearly defined patterns, flawless symmetry, strong contrast between colours and smooth, even texture. I also love how symmetry was maintained through every step, including positioning the patterns with the ropes.” -Belinda
