Teardrop Technique Winners
November 2023 Soap Challenge
The Teardrop Technique creates a single large teardrop design inside the soap. It was created by Jui-Ping Candy Chou of Sweetly Sweetly Sweetly in Taiwan. The video she posted in January 2016 generated interest from many soapmakers and was the focus of our challenge in May of that year. This is the first time we have re-visited the technique, and since it’s a design that is hidden until you cut into the soap, I spent considerable time researching some of the issues we faced the first time around in the hopes that we could avoid some of the same pitfalls. We were mostly successful!
Our deepest gratitude goes to Wholesale Supplies Plus for sponsoring the winners from the US in this challenge! Founded in 1999, Wholesale Supplies Plus was established as a way to provide the public with affordable, professional quality soap making, skincare and candle making supplies. From the start they have highly valued offering high quality products, outstanding service, reasonable pricing and education you can trust. They are providing a $100 gift certificate prize for the grand prize winner, plus the Sponsor’s Choice prize in the bonus category. Additionally, they are giving away 20% coupon codes to second and third place winners. The Soap Challenge Club is providing prizes for all our international winners outside the US with the same prizes that will go toward registration fees in 2024!
The goal of the challenge was to pour a fluid teardrop shape in the center of our soaps. The winners and advanced categories were allowed to include embeds in their soaps if they wished, and the winners category was given an additional directive to create a frame made of soap around their teardrop design.
If you are interested in learning how to have success with the teardrop technique, the tutorial from this challenge is available HERE.

Great job to all our winners, as well as everyone else who participated in the challenge this month! If you would like to see the rest of the entries this month, check out these links:
Registration for the December challenge opens Monday, November 27! We will be doing Feathered Circles. Here’s is the soap I made for the video tutorial. Three times a year we do a completely blind challenge where no one is allowed to share anything about their soaps on the internet and there won’t be any names attached to the entries until the winners are announced – this is one of those times!
Check out the Upcoming Challenges page for more information and sign up to be notified as soon as registration opens.
